The Materials Research Institute of Tohoku University in Japan has successfully developed a new process for processing titanium nickel shape memory wire, known as the jacket chip extrusion method.

The process of this processing method mainly includes the following basic steps:

1、Multilayer composite sheets composed of different metal sheets are prepared by coating rolling, and the thickness ratio of each metal layer depends on the determined chemical composition.

2、Cut the rolled composite sheet into fragments, and then fill the fragments into containers to make blanks.

3、Squeeze the blank into a thin rod and then process it into fine threads.

4、By thermal diffusion treatment, the fine wire is transformed into the desired titanium nickel intermetallic compound wire material.

By adopting this process, the machinability of composite materials can be improved, and fine wires with good microstructure can be obtained with a high reduction rate.
